Introduction to Philosophy
PHI-2021
This is a foundation course in philosophy. The course introduces the methods of philosophy, addresses some central philosophical questions, and examines the views of various philosophers worldwide. Students will learn about topics such as epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, sociopolitical ethics, aesthetics, and other historical issues. This course fulfills the Gordon Rule Writing requirement.

Critical Thinking
PHI-2604
This is a foundational course in philosophy. Students will learn critical thinking skills and will study major theories of ethics. Students will use methods of effective reasoning to reflect critically upon their values and ethical standards. Students will apply their skills to topics in applied ethics. These topics may include abortion, euthanasia, affirmative action, homosexual marriage, animal rights, and environmental ethics.

PHI-2680
A.I. & Ethics
This course acquaints students with ethics relevant to the design, implementation, and administration of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. It will explore issues such as the biases of algorithms, autonomous warfare, the risks of surveillance technologies, and the effects of technologies on employment. The class introduces students to the classical ethical frameworks of the field of philosophical ethics and then considers the application of these frameworks in various domains using AI. In the course, students will consider matters of individual responsibility with A.I. and the need for industry ethical standards and governmental regulation of A.I. The class is a required course for the A.I. certificate.
